This past weekend, we were fortunate enough to attend one of the biggest and best birthday celebrations in the country – that of the Queen! As a supporter of the RFCA we were asked to attend as guests of the Ministry of Defence to the Queen’s Birthday Parade, and as a truly British company, we couldn’t say no to one of the most British events around.

Our day at the Queen’s Birthday Parade
We’ll admit – when the invitation came from the Ministry of Defence to attend the Queen’s Birthday Parade and a special luncheon arrived in the mail, we were a little shocked. Not because we weren’t aware of Anglian’s support of the RFCA, but because any opportunity to liaise with the Queen (so to speak) is generally an unexpected gift and opportunity, but one we were happy to accept.
The day began with seats at the Queen’s Birthday Parade in Horse Guards Parade, where hundreds of suited soldiers both on foot and horseback began the astonishing Trooping the Colour ceremony. Watching them move in complete sync around the square was mesmerising, to say the least. And we were lucky enough to have sunny weather as well, which was an added bonus!
But perhaps the most exciting portion of the parade was, of course, the royal arrivals. Newlyweds the Duke and Duchess of Sussex Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were ushered in via carriage, as was the Duchess of Cornwall and the Duchess of Cambridge.
And then, of course, there was the Queen. She arrived with suitable fanfare as a bright speck of blue that dutifully did the rounds in her carriage, circling the square before taking the seat of honour at the front of Horse Guards Parade.
Once the parade finished, we were off to the East India Club, where we watched the Flyover zoom overhead. Our luncheon was served with a side of history, as the room we took drinks in was where news that the Battle of Waterloo had been won first reached the Prince Regent.
From there, a lovely meal ensued. The luncheon was attended by several representatives from businesses that work hard to support the RFCA. We spent the afternoon reflecting on what had brought us to the East India Club in the first place, and how we can continue to show our support. Overall, it was an exciting day celebrating not only the Queen but the UK’s Armed Forces. We feel honoured to have been included.
Anglian supports the RFCA
For a number of years, Anglian as a business has worked not only to support the Armed Forces through active recruitment, but by helping service members retain their jobs while they leave on active duty.
We were asked to the Ministry of Defence’s luncheon because of our particular support for an active service member that was recently deployed, but will keep his job as an Anglian employee once he returns. We’re proud to have him as a member of our team, and hope to support him in everything he does now and in the future. And we can’t wait to welcome him home!
