5 home improvement projects for the bank holiday weekend

With the August Bank Holiday fast approaching, you may well be contemplating how to make the most of the long weekend, whether it’s spending time in the garden, catching up with friends, relaxing with the family or planning to get stuck into a home improvement project.

If you want to dedicate the bank holiday to upgrading your home and revitalising it in time for autumn, then we’ve got some inspiration for you. Even the smallest of changes can transform any home and completely change how we feel about our living space, but it’s not always easy to know where to begin. With this in mind, we’ve compiled a list of five simple home improvements projects you can do over this bank holiday weekend.

1. Paint party!

A fresh coat of paint has to be one of the most effective ways of revitalising your home interior and bringing an entirely different vibe to a room. There are many ways of using paint to make a style statement, whether it be painting a feature wall in a bold colour to create an impact, or painting your ceiling to make a room seem brighter and bigger. Reaching for the paint brushes and experimenting with colour is one of the easiest ways to spruce up your home – and of course, it can also be lots of fun when done with friends and family!

2. You’re welcome

Statement entrance

The entrance to your home – your front door and hallway – is the first thing you and your guests see when entering your property; this area therefore needs to instantly impress. One way to renew the look and feel of your home this bank holiday weekend is to introduce a statement item of furniture to your entrance hall or even a large work of art.

If you’re passionate about DIY, you could upcycle an existing piece of furniture or create the artwork yourself. You could even visit a vintage market or car boot sale over the bank holiday weekend to hunt for a bargain. A new addition that’ll make the space more captivating will really help to make a fabulous first impression.

3. The light fantastic

A simple way to make your home look refreshed is to replace the shades and pendants on your lamps and light fittings. A tired light fitting can make a room feel darker and change the atmosphere of the space, while a new pendant or shade – whether this is chic and minimal or quirky and colourful – will instantly brighten any room in your home, lifting the ambience and returning your lamps and light fittings to their former glory.

4. Love your garden

Colourful front garden

The August Bank Holiday is the perfect time to tend to your garden, enjoying the results of all your hard work over the summer months while also preparing your outdoor space for the seasons ahead. After a glorious summer, all our plants want and need is a good drink. This is particularly crucial for pots and plants in containers, so take the time to water all of your plants, preferably with any stored rain water.

There’s often nothing sadder than seeing plants with dead flower heads, so this weekend is also the time to deadhead any flowering plants in borders, beds, pots or hanging baskets. This quick – and very satisfying – job will not only help to keep the plants looking attractive, but it will also encourage even more blooms.

5. Create a focal point

Home improvement projects don’t have to be big or expensive; the introduction of a small focal point in a room can cost next to nothing, but can make a big difference. Whether you display a selection of blooms picked from the garden on a dining table, collate a collection of books and treasured possessions on a shelf, or create a gallery wall of framed photographs, creating an eye-catching display can be quick and easy, and bring some personality to a room too.

We hope your find our ideas inspiring this bank holiday weekend! We’d love for you to share the results of your hard work with us, so don’t forget to tag @anglianhome (Instagram) or @AnglianHomeImprovements (Facebook) when you share your home transformations on social media.
