#ProjectSpotlight: Timber windows and doors
There are a lot of reasons why people choose to install timber products on their home – timber inspires a traditional feeling, their home might be in a conservation area, or they just love the look and feel of wooden home improvements. Whatever the reason, it’s important to get the timber right, from keeping with your home’s overall feel, down to the quality.
That’s why the Fisher family chose Anglian’s timber windows and doors. Impressed with the quality and the timber products’ ability to keep with their home’s existing exterior, they opted for hardwood windows in a dark woodgrain, plus a timber door in our Clyde style out front and another timber door in the back. With brand new timber home improvements, their property has been restored to its former glory, and they can rest assured in the knowledge that they’re getting quality that’ll last them a nice long while.
Here’s what Mr. Fisher had to say about his new timber windows and doors:
Q: Please can you explain why you decided to have your windows and doors replaced?
A: As the house was built 30 years ago, it seemed a good thing to upgrade.
Q: What made you contact Anglian?
A: The opportune time of a canvasser, who confirmed the availability of hardwood windows and doors.
Q: Did you speak to any other companies, and if so, what made you decide to choose Anglian?
A: Anglian’s availability of what appeared to be a very good product in keeping with original construction.
Q: Can you tell me if or how the visit from the sales rep helped you in your decision and final choice of style, colour and material?
A: He reaffirmed the quality of the product. We also had a very informed and helpful surveyor.
Q: What’s your opinion of the Anglian service and installation you’ve received? Did you have any particular concerns or requirements?
A: Although the installation was after than anticipated, we’re very happy with the end result and quality of the workmanship, including your contracted scaffolders. They were very neat and tidy!
Q: What’s the BEST thing about your new installation, and what main differences have you noticed since having your installation?
A: It’s too early really to judge on climate issues or energy savings, but noticeably, the sound of traffic is much reduced.
Wondering what the difference is between hardwood and softwood timber products? Check out our blog post for more information.

#AnglianAnswers: Do my windows need resealing?
Windows are a daily part of life – maybe not always in the foreground, but they’re there! – so when they don’t work as they should, it’s important to get them fixed. There are a variety of symptoms that suggest your window needs resealing, but the most common are:
- Condensation on the inside of the glass pane
- Draughts leaking in from the window
- Gaps around the edges of the seal or noticeable wear and tear
If you’re experiencing any of the issues above, there’s a good chance your windows will need resealing. But why? And how can you fix it? Read on for our top tips.
Why has my window seal eroded?
There are any number of reasons your window seal might have eroded, as it can be affected by something as simple as the temperature, what cleaning products you use, or even time.
Windows naturally contract and expand as the weather fluctuates, which will inevitably affect the seal as it attempts to adapt. If there’s a particularly hot or cold snap, you might notice this begin to happen. Cleaning products that are strong or abrasive also have the tendency to affect your window seal.
The symptoms of a damaged window seal might not be particularly evident at first, so it’s important to check your window edges carefully to make sure you catch the problem early, as it tends to only worsen over time.
How can I fix it?
It’s really important damaged window seals get fixed, as they can let warm air out and cold air in, affecting the temperature of your home and potentially costing you money on heating bills.
In most cases of broken window seals, you’ll need to replace the window to fix it. If your windows are still within warranty, you’ll just need to get in contact with your window provider to see what the next steps are. But if you aren’t sure it’s your window seal that needs replacing in the first place, it’s time to get in contact with an Anglian engineer to see how we can help.

What are burglars really looking for? Safety tips from an ex-burglar
Being burgled can be a terrifying experience – it can make you feel as though you aren’t safe in your own home, which is something no one should have to go through. That’s why we’ve created our latest campaign to help you make your home safer for you and your family.
In our latest video, reformed criminal turned security expert Richard Taylor offers a full analysis of how a potential burglar might scan your house in search of security flaws.
Government statistics show that 689,000 domestic burglaries occurred between January and December last year, with a quarter of these being unplanned. In our video, Richard examines the external security of various home styles and, using eye-tracking software, identifies the points that can attract burglars.
He explains the key factors that determine whether a burglar may target your home, including poor security around the front and back of the house, a lack of visible alarm systems and open windows. Richard records an alarming 32 security flaws across three homes in the three-minute video, showing that good external security is paramount around your home.
In the video, you’ll find some of Richard’s useful tips to help keep your home safe, from a perspective you may not have considered before. These include ideas such as checking and removing post from post boxes to show someone is home, and turning your blinds so your goods can’t be evaluated by a potential burglar.
At Anglian Home Improvements, we believe that security in the home should be a top priority, which is why we make our products using only the best-quality materials. See how we can help you improve your home’s security by taking a look at the security features our windows have here.
