Get one step ahead of interior trends in 2018

2018 is finally here and we’re all interested in finding out what the new interior trends will be for the year ahead.

So what are the new colours, materials and revivals for 2018? To let us in on the secret, we have teamed up with Chloe Spillett, winner of our national Styled By Me competition which was designed to celebrate the nation’s passion for home improvements and on-trend interiors. The mother of two and successful DIY and interior blogger wowed guest judge Sophie Robinson – a much-loved interior stylist – with her astounding eye for detail, strong colour scheme, as well as her devotion and love for all things interior design.

On her interior design predictions for the upcoming year, Chloe commented, “I’m delighted to share what I believe will be this year’s top interior trends.  I’m hugely passionate about interior design and I hope by sharing my top trends for 2018 it will inspire others, ignite a creative flare and encourage those to redesign or update the style of their homes – even the smallest of changes can make a huge difference.”

Here are Chloe’s top four trend predictions for 2018. Now where are those paintbrushes…

  1. Bold Earthy Tones

We’re talking deep petrol blues, sassy saffrons, emerald greens and rich rusts. This can be achieved through adding accessories to the home, including soft furnishings such as cushions or beautiful pictures and paintings or smaller items such as vases or candle holders. Grey neutrals have dominated interior schemes for a few years now but has grey had its day? I think olive grey could be a winning alternative to break the mould.

  1. Statement Staircase

Forget feature walls and floors; you only get one chance to make a lasting first impression and what better way to showcase your home than with a stunning staircase? Step away from neutrals and reach for those bold earthy shades; paint your spindles and risers and let your stairs speak for themselves.

  1. Head Turning Terrazzo

I absolutely love this retro trend and couldn’t be happier to see it making a comeback. Marble has been ever popular throughout 2017 but I predict Terrazzo to be a serious rival in 2018. Terrazzo is a mixture of polished cement and marble, or granite chippings, which is polished up beautifully giving it a stunning shiny, smooth finish. It’s so versatile with a range of colours and patterns and can be used as flooring, on walls or in kitchens as worktops. Perfect in maximalist and minimalist schemes alike.

  1. Raw and Natural Materials

Ok, so not exactly hot off the press but this trend is here to stay and with good reason! 2017 saw a wave of interiors adorned with concrete pots and planters, untreated plywood, OSB (a personal favourite) and corrugated metals, and I for one still can’t get enough. It’s great news for those among us who are working on a tight budget; these materials are easy to source and extremely affordable. They can easily be incorporated in the home, whether it’s updating the external façade, new flooring or incorporating it in small finishing touches; there are many ways to make it work for any home or budget.  For an updated twist I love to mix up textures and styles so I’d love to see some opulent velvet soft furnishings thrown into the mix. Divine!

Chloe is an exciting up-and-coming interior designer and her winning entry to our Styled By Me competition proved how bold, playful and on-trend her own personal sense of style is. Chloe’s interior ideas are very inspiring and something all homeowners can easily incorporate into their own schemes for an instant update.
